GOIL to build 3 LPG plants as it is selected for cylinder recirculation module

Ghana’s indigenous oil marketing company, GOIL, has been selected as one of the companies to lead the implementation of government’s Cylinder Re-circulation Model (CRM). GOIL has consequently announced it will build three liquefied petroleum gas filling plants in Tema, Kumasi and Tamale. Chairman of the Board of Directors of GOIL, Kwamena Bartels, revealed this at the 49th Annual General Assembly of the company in Accra. Following the recent series of explosions at gas filling stations across the country, the National Petroleum Authority proposed the implementation CRM to ensure that LPG filling points are sited outside of densely populated areas and commercial centres. Under the new module, LPG plants will procure, brand, maintain and fill empty cylinders to be distributed to consumers and households through retail outlets and stations, deemed to be low risk, after government’s assessment. “I am happy to announce that Goil has been selected as one of the OMCs to lead in the implementation of the change. GOIL will build tree gas-filling plants in Tema, Kumasi and Tamale,” Mr. Bartels announced. Expansion The Board chairman also indicated that the company would continue with the expansion of its fuel stations by taking over some distressed stations and entering into joint venture with individual stations. “In collaboration with BOST and our subsidiary GoEnergy, GOIL will be able to satisfy its increasing demand for its expanding outlets,” Mr. Bartels said. He also announced GOIL will use its 330 outlets to venture into money transfer business as a way of diversifying its portfolio.
