The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has unveiled the official schedule of events to mark Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary.

The activities, set to take place across various dates, will include historical commemorations, school competitions, and a ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the Presidency.

The commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident will kickstart the activities on Friday, February 28, 2025, with a wreath-laying ceremony at Nationalism Park at 8 a.m. The event will be broadcast live across multiple platforms.

Other major activities include:

  • Sunday, March 2, 2025 – Finals of a nationwide school quiz competition
  • Tuesday, March 4, 2025 – Finals of a nationwide debate competition
  • Wednesday, March 5, 2025 – President’s School Children Awards Programme
  • Thursday, March 6, 2025 – Ceremonial Parade at the Forecourt of the Presidency

To increase public engagement, the Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC will roll out educational content on television, radio, and social media ahead of the February 28 event. This includes:

  • Sharing historical insights into the events leading to the 1948 Crossroad Shooting Incident.
  • Hosting an X-space conversation on the topic: “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present.”
  • Encouraging media outlets to publish stories and discussions promoting the anniversary theme.

The NCPC encourages Ghanaians, media houses, and bloggers to actively participate by sharing information and engaging in discussions on the planned events. Further updates on the celebrations will be provided in due course.

This year’s activities aim to revive national interest and deepen public participation in Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations while honouring the country’s historical heroes.
