The Ghana Police Service has interdicted three officers in connection with the leaked audio recording on the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
They are George Alex Mensah, a Commissioner of Police (COP), Emmanuel Eric Gyebi, a Superintendent, and George Lysander Asare, another Superintendent.
Voices of the officers, together with that of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern Region Chairman Daniel Bugri Naabu, were heard on the tape, which purportedly plots the removal of the IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, before the 2024 elections.
“The interdiction is to make way for disciplinary proceedings into their conduct in line with Police Service regulations,” a statement from the police on Thursday, September 7 said.
An earlier wireless statement sighted by editors.3news.com directed COP Alex Mensah to hand over his weapon, uniforms and other police accoutrements to the Logistics Department.
“You are also to hand over the command vehicle to DIPLO/Transport.”
COP Alex Mensah as well as Supt Asare challenged the authenticity of the recording when they appeared on separate days before the Atta Akyea committee.
They claimed the audio recording is doctored, raising high suspicions that Dr Akuffo Dampare is behind the secret recording.
Chief Bugri Naabu had, however, confessed that he did the recording, but Supt. Asare says he knows the boys who went for the recording from the former NPP official to hand it over to the IGP.
According to him, the boys are ready and prepared to testify before the committee.
