GBA calls on IGP to investigate all incidents of robbery

The Ghana Bar Association is the latest to add its voice to the many concerns raised about the recent spate of robberies in the country. The country has in the past few weeks recorded high numbers of armed robbery cases especially within the national capital city Accra, a situation which necessitated a reshuffle within the police command. The Association in a release Friday March 2, called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu  “to ensure  a thorough investigation of all the incidents of robbery and the perpetrators duly brought to justices”. The Association has also called on the government to properly resource the Ghana Police Service to be able to carry out its duties effectively and efficiently. They have further called on the Interior Minister and the Inspector General of Police to as a matter of urgency put in place measures that will ensure the safety and security of all citizens in the country.  They believe that the situation must be “nipped in the bud” before it undermines the democracy of the country. The Association says it is alarming how frequent the attacks have become and how they are being carried out. In their view, “the safety and security of law abiding citizenry is an essential component of the rule of law and must be protected and guarded by the state.” Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament is also calling on the president to immediately direct the Police Council to review appointments in the Police Service. They argue that a bi-partisan group of policemen will be the best strategy to fight criminals in the country. Source: 3news | Ghana
