Acting Director General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) Abraham Amaliba has asserted that the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is always silent on critiquing the NPP gov’t but does the exact opposite when the NDC is the government of the day.
Speaking on TV3 New Day’s Big Issue, Friday, April 25, 2025, he said “I have always criticised the GBA even though I am a member for their approach in tackling national issues and I have taken them to the cleanest when they seek to find their voices when NDC is in power but when NPP is in power, they lose their voice. They suffer from what is called ‘kaka’ (toothache).
“When NPP is in power, they are stone-deaf, they don’t talk and don’t say anything but when NDC is in power they find their voice,” he stated.
The GBA in a formal statement responding to the recent suspension of the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo, emphasized the need for strict adherence to the rule of law and the constitutional processes governing such a high-profile removal.
The Association stressed the importance of discretion and fair procedure as outlined in Article 296 of the Constitution, which governs the exercise of discretionary powers.
Reacting to the GBA’s response, Amaliba commended the Association for what he says is the “most forward-looking” statement from GBA in a long while.
“This is the most forward-looking statement coming from the GBA in a long while. In fact, in the last 20 years if I must say. Now, this particular statement is very neutral,” he stated.
