About nine stalls within the Kumasi Central Market were completely razed down Wednesday night after fire swept through them.

But for the intervention of fire officers, eyewitnesses say, many more stalls would have been lost to the inferno.

There were no casualties but property worth thousands of Cedis were lost, TV3 gathers.

Speaking to our correspondent, a stall owner, Nsiah, said the fire is reported to have started between 11:30pm and 12 midnight.

“I have lost so many things. Quite unquantifiable,” he told TV3’s William Evans Nkum on Thursday, October 15.

“We couldn’t salvage anything,” Nsiah bemoaned.

Most of the property lost are said to be textiles as the fire could not reach the other parts of the Market, which has suffered a bout of fire disasters in the last couple of years.

The cause of Wednesday’s fire is not yet known.
