Ex-NSB Boss Kwabena Adu-Boahene and wife sue AG over ‘harsh’ GH¢200m bail conditions

Mr Kwabena Adu Boahene

The former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, have taken legal action against Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over what they call “unjustifiably harsh” bail conditions imposed on them.

The couple remains in custody after being slapped with a staggering GH¢200 million bail—GH¢120 million for Adu-Boahene and GH¢80 million for his wife.

Their legal team, led by Samuel Atta Akyea Esq., argues that these demands are excessive and appear strategically imposed to bypass constitutional limits on detention without trial.

The lawsuit, filed at the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra, requests the court to grant them bail on more reasonable terms while investigations continue.

In their application, the defense maintains that the EOCO’s request for such an extreme bail amount suggests an attempt to keep them detained indefinitely, rather than ensuring their availability for investigations.

EOCO is investigating financial misconduct allegations against the former NSB chief and his wife.

However, their lawyers insist that the charges remain vague, and the state has not provided concrete evidence warranting such a steep financial requirement for bail.

In the Notice of Motion, the defense has petitioned the High Court’s Human Rights Division to intervene.

The case is set to be heard on May 28, 2025, where their lawyers will argue for a bail reduction and challenge the legality of the prosecution’s approach.
