Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has officially been placed on INTERPOL’s Red Notice list, following a renewed request by Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The notice, made public on June 5, 2025, intensifies international efforts to locate and provisionally arrest the former minister, who is currently believed to be in the United States receiving medical treatment.
The 65-year-old, wanted on charges of “Using Public Office for Profit,” is described by INTERPOL as a Ghanaian male, born on November 7, 1959, in Accra, with black hair and eyes, standing 1.7 metres tall. He speaks both English and Twi.
This marks the second time Ofori-Atta has been declared wanted by the OSP.
Earlier this year, he was labelled a “fugitive from justice” after failing to comply with an official summons related to corruption investigations, including probes into the National Cathedral project and a controversial revenue assurance contract with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) and ultimately to answer allegations on corruption and procurement breaches.
Speaking at a June 2 press briefing, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng confirmed that his office had formally initiated the Red Notice request just 30 minutes prior to the announcement, seeking international cooperation in tracking down the former official.
