Legal practitioner and National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, Edudzi Tameklo, has strongly refuted claims suggesting that lawyer Thaddeus Sory met privately with Supreme Court Justices to discuss ongoing petitions to remove suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
In a statement accompanied by CCTV video footage on his Facebook page, Tameklo described the allegations amplified by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members and media outlets—as a politically driven attempt to mislead the public and discredit Ghana’s judiciary.
“This is the so-called dinner the NPP and its media have sensationalised all week,” Tameklo said, adding that the footage proves no meeting took place.
The video, labeled “restaurant,” shows Thaddeus Sory dining with businessman Kotei Dzani.
Shortly after, three individuals, including Justice Emmanuel Kulendi, enter the restaurant. Justice Kulendi exchanges brief greetings with Sory and Dzani before proceeding to join his party. Sory, upon noticing another judge, also exchanges pleasantries—a gesture Tameklo describes as “courtesy between the bar and bench.”
Tameklo stressed that the interaction lasted less than a minute and was devoid of any private conversation or impropriety. Notably, Justice Pwamang—one of the judges alleged to have been involved—does not appear in the video.
He likened the scene to an everyday social encounter: “What happened is akin to seeing a colleague in town and exchanging pleasantries, nothing more.”
Tameklo urged the public to “watch and judge for themselves,” calling for restraint and responsibility in political commentary involving judicial integrity.
