Reconstituted KNUST Council would not be bias – UTAG

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) says it has no doubt the yet to be reconstituted Governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) would do a good job. The Association said ones the reconstituted Council is legally constituted, it perfectly fits into what UTAG has been calling for when the old Council was dissolved. The KNUST chapter of UTAG called off their days-old strike after the Chancellor, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stepped in to resolve the impasse between students and university management. This comes after a high-level stakeholder meeting on Monday at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where it was also agreed that the embattled Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, should be reinstated on the University’s Council. The University will therefore be re-opened on November 8, 2018 for academic work to continue. UTAG National Secretary, Dr. Seth Kusi Boadi, in an interview with Onua FM’s Yen Sempa hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa on Tuesday said “we are in the process where there should be peace and that is what we have been calling for”. “We have pledged to help so that there will be peace, ones it is a legally mandated body. Ones it is well constituted, we doubt that they would be bias”, he explained. Dr. Kusi Boadi said “the date of reopening is feasible because with this agreement, all the unions will stand down their intended actions so the rest will be administrative works”.
