WASS fielded the same contestants from last year[/caption]
West Africa Senior High School (WASS) toppled defending champions Prempeh College to book a place in the final of the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz.
WASS beat Prempeh College and Krobo Girls’ Senior High School in the semi final contest to make it to Thursday’s final.

It was tense for some inside the hall[/caption]
It was a charged atmosphere inside the RS Amegashie Auditorium at the University of Ghana Business School as the last ticket to the final was up for grabs. The other two finalists – Adisadel College and St Peter’s SHS – had been known in the day’s earlier contests.
And WASS, the only Greater Accra Region School standing, pulled the shocker.
The Seniors, as Prempeh College students are affectionately called, showed their seniority in the competition by winning the first round by three points. They amassed 26 points, followed by WASS on 23 points while KROGISS were a distant third on 11 points.
The Wassarians came back strongly in Round Two to turn the tables. They leapfrogged the four-time champions with a total of 29 points.
Die cast!
At this stage, the die was cast as the contest became a two-horse race with the all-ladies school left in this year’s contest, KROGISS, trailing behind the two.
The champions scooped almost full marks – 8 marks – for the Problem of the Day with WASS sweeping only 4 out of 10 points, tilting the balances in favour of the Ashanti Region side.
WASS fought back in the fourth round to turn the tide yet again. But at this stage, they played the catch-me-if-you-can race with PC.
They wrapped it up with the last round as they amassed a total of 52 points to beat their closest rivals Prempeh College (45 points). KROGISS stayed third with 29 points.
The final, to be held at the National Theatre, will now see West Africa SHS facing two other former champions Adisadel College and St. Peter’s SHS.
WASS will hope to become the second co-ed school as well as second day school to win the senior high school science and maths contest.
