Bring back Parent-Teacher Association- Child Rights International advocates

Bright Appiah is Executive Director of CRI

Executive Director of Child Rights International, Bright Appiah, has called for the reintroduction of the Parent-Teacher Association.

Speaking on 3FM Sunrise with Johnnie Hughes, Bright Appiah called on the Education Minister Designate Haruna Iddrisu and President Mahama to take steps to reverse the name Parent Association imposed on the organization to its original name, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

Ghana Education Service on January 18th 2024 argued that “the decision to change the name from PTA to PA was made in an effort to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for parents and guardians.”

“We need to bring back the Parent-Teacher Association and I want to use this medium to call on the honourable minister-designate to reverse the current name of the organisation.” Bright Appiah advocated.

He however indicated that the new Parent-Teacher Association “should come with guidelines on child protection and welfare and not just discussions on what parents should pay or buy.”

The Executive Director lauded government plans to decentralise school feeding programme.

“I believe it’s a good thing to allow heads of secondary schools to purchase their foodstuffs. This will allow heads to decide what kind of food needed for the students, ” he stated.
