The Convention People’s Party (CPP) says it is not in the least convinced about the decision taken by the Electoral Commission (EC) over the call for a new voters’ register ahead of the 2016 elections.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) had stirred debate on the register, citing the presence of over 76,000 foreigners in it.

They were joined by some political parties including the CPP for a new register.

However, last week, the EC pointed out that arguments advanced by the parties calling for a new register were “unconvincing”.

Speaking on TV3’s News @10 on Monday, January 4, CPP’s General Secretary Nii Armah Akomfrah said inasmuch as the consensus remains that the register is flawed, a new one is the best way forward.

“We believe in a new register,” he said, adding that such a move will clear doubts in the minds of all going into the 2016 elections.

Nii Akomfrah said the 16 recommendations made by the EC in its response are bogus.
