The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public that the collation of parliamentary results for Ablekuma North will be completed, despite a dramatic turn of events involving the Returning Officer, Vincent Obeng.

On January 8, 2025, Mr Obeng announced his resignation, citing frustrations during the collation process.

Speaking to the media, he revealed that results from four out of seven polling stations had been successfully collated, but challenges arose with the remaining three.

He attributed the delays to presiding officers’ failure to authenticate key election documents.

Frustrated, Mr Obeng declared, “I’m done with Ablekuma North. The EC should appoint someone else to complete the process.

But in response, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, expressed regret over Mr Obeng’s decision, attributing it to frustration but reassuring the public that efforts are underway to reinstate him.

It’s not the end of the road; we will get him back to finish the job,” Dr Quaicoe stated.

The collation process at Ablekuma North has been marked by tension, including disputes over pink sheets and scuffles at the collation centre.

Police intervention was required to restore calm after a party official triggered chaos by slamming a table on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

The EC has reiterated its neutrality in the electoral process, emphasising that it is the voters who ultimately determine their leaders.
