A 25-year-old driver’s mate, Danaah Sulemana, who was sentenced to ten years in prison for defiling a two-year-old girl in Kumbungu has tested positive for Covid-19.

According to the Northern Regional Director of Health, Dr. John Eleeza, the accused was still undergoing screening processes for Covid-19 as part of measures to prevent the virus from entering the prisons.

He disclosed while still with the police, Danaah was sent to the Public Health Reference Laboratory in Tamale where his samples were taken for test.

“The results came and he tested positive,” Dr Eleeza revealed.

He added: “Samples of all police officers suspected to have come into contact with Danaah have since been taken.”

The patient has since been sent to the treatment center at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Contact-tracing has also commenced in Kumbungu.

In May, a prison officer from the Tamale Central Prisons also tested positive of the virus.

So far, the Northern Region has recorded 52 cases.

Out of this number, three persons including a three-month-old boy have died.
