Discussing love and factors to consider before marriage on the Day show with Berla Mundi, Counselor Cathrine Onwioduokit cautioned that young people must not be in a rush to marry, which may be because that may lead to unhealthy marriage.

According to her, the sustainability of any marriage is the value to both parties, not feelings and emotions.

“You are not to marry any person based on feelings. Feelings may bring you into a relationship, emotions may bring you into a relationship, but value sustains marriage.”

She stated that people get into toxic marriages because they are lonely and don’t want to be left alone. To that, she cautioned young people not to rush into marriage.

“Some people may get married because they are afraid of staying single. They are afraid of being rejected. They are afraid of remaining single because everyone has been wedding every Saturday. So they embrace that, just so they marry, and it is a very dangerous thing to get into marriage like that. Don’t be in a rush to get into marriage,” she said.

She added, “It is better to be in a broken relationship than to be in a broken marriage.

“In a relationship, take your time, find out what you would not compromise, establish healthy boundaries, know exactly what you want, watch and pray, engage in deeper conversations because until you engage somebody you will not really know them. That’s why I say courtship is a period of engaging,” Counselor Catherine concluded.
