Doctors are expected to delay the second phase of their roadmap towards resignation from the public sector as a crunch meeting has been scheduled between their leadership and Parliament.
The meeting is scheduled to be held on Friday, August 7, when the doctors had planned to activate the second phase of their roadmap, which would have seen the withdrawal of in-patient and emergency services.
Doctors had withdrawn out-patient services on Thursday, July 30 as the first step to their mass resignation from the public sector, accusing government of ignoring their calls for proper conditions of service.
Speaking on TV3’s Agenda on Thursday, August 6, Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso Constituency Dr Richard Anane, who also serves as a Ranking Member of the Health Committee of Parliament, said behind-the-scene meetings have been held among parties.
According to him, the doctors have been called upon to exercise restraint.
Members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) were not happy with President John Dramani Mahama after he had stated that government was not ready to meet their demands.
But Dr Anane assured that Friday’s meeting will be positive.
