Declaration of assets: Fire them if they fail to do so by April 1 – Senyo Hosi on Mahama’s directive to appointees

Businessman and economic policy analyst Senyo Hosi has called on President Mahama to take action against his appointees who will not comply with his directive for them to declare their assets by 31st March, 2025.

He said the declaration of assets is needed for the sake of accountability in governance.

“The President has said that by the 31st, all assets should be declared. If he finds one appointee who hasn’t done so by April 1st, fire him. Otherwise, you are not a president,” he stated on the KeyPoints on February 22.

His comment comes after President Mahama declared his assets and directed his appointees to do same.

Highlighting the importance of actions over words, Senyo added: “Leadership and culture are not driven by what you say but by what you punish and what you reward.”

The call for transparency follows years of public outcry over government accountability, with many citizens demanding stricter enforcement of asset declaration laws.

Touching on official travels by government appointees, Mr Hosi proposed that they must be limited to economy class for short-distance flights.

“You can’t be flying from here to Nigeria, which is just 45 minutes, in business class. Why should a minister pay $1,000 for a one-hour flight when the same trip costs $300?” he questioned.

The analyst further suggested consolidating travel rewards for public officials: “Today, when a public official travels, the miles are theirs. It should be the state’s miles so that we reduce travel costs.”

The proposal comes amid ongoing discussions on government austerity measures.
