Civil Society Organizations including Action Aid Ghana, Centre for Local Government Advocacy, and Syria Development Organisation are partnering the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to embark on a sustainable agriculture programme.

The European Union-project dubbed ‘Civil Society Organization Sustainable Development Rise Programme’ is expected to help provide food for the people of Ghana.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day Wednesday, August 19, the Technical Assistant to the team, Mary Tobin, said the EU is interested in providing sustainable way of agriculture and not the usual hoe and cutlass farming.

She explained that the project is to provide a decent employment within the agriculture sector and also make sure that it does not worsen climate change in a way that will affect the environment.

The project is expected to take place in the Northern, Western and Bono regions.

“The project is five years and involves €9 million to implement these projects,” she said.

This will also ensure social protection for farmers since most farmers are poor.

The reason for this project is to assist people within the agriculture sector of Ghana.
