Cross-fertilization of ideas will create more PRESECs, Wesley Girls across the country – Adutwum

Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has said the government is creating more A-List senior high Schools across the country.

He stated that the government is doing this through cross-fertilization of ideas by transferring some headmasters of the well-endowed schools to less-endowed ones to help transform those schools.

“Why can’t we create more Wesley Girls across the country?” He asked in an interview with TV3’s Roland Walker which was aired on the Big Issue on Friday, February 17

He added, “we have to do cross-fertilization of ideas.”

Touching on the achievements of the government in education, he said “we have sown seeds that will be generated in the coming years.

“The foundation that we have laid for STEM won’t change, you change STEM at your own peril.

“The president is an education transformer, and every foundation he laid should be built upon.”

The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament further said Science, Technology Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education that the government is pursuing will create critical thinkers and problem solvers.

Dr Adutwum indicated that STEM education does not permit just memorizing a theory without application.

It helps students to think critically in solving a problem, he stressed.

“The bottom line is that we need critical thinkers in this country. The only subject that you can’t memorize but has to think critically is STEM. STEM is not just science, mathematics engineering but problem-solving,” he told said.

He further indicated the world is currently in the 4th industrial revolution which requires creativity and critical thinking.

There are four Cs that apply, these are  “creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration.”

“Development of drones and all that requires critical thinkers.”

The mission of the Ghana STEM school is to meet the educational and professional development needs of a diverse community of STEM learners with cutting-edge and engaging experiences in flexible learning spaces through pioneering from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
