One of the ten injured holidaymakers, who fell off the Bunso Arboretum Canopy Walkway, has been transferred to the Koforidua Government Hospital due to the intensity of her condition, TV3 has gathered.
She was originally admitted – together with the injured others – at the Tafo Government Hospital on Wednesday, July 1. Others had been admitted at the Hawa Memorial Hospital in the Eastern Region.
They had gone to the arboretum to celebrate the 55th Republic Day anniversary of Ghana.
But luck eluded them as the second bridge of the 320m walkway removed, plunging all ten of them – walking on at the time – into the forest reserve.
The Bunso Arboretum Eco-tourism Forest Reserve in the Eastern Region is managed by the Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute (PGRRI) of the Center for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The canopy walkway was constructed two years ago to attract tourists to the arboretum, which is home to over 110 species of birds, some of which are very rare.
It is modeled along that at the Kakum National Park in the Central Region.
A team of rescuers from the Ghana National Ambulance Service immediately got to the scene on Wednesday to help the victims.
