The newly elected General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nii Armah Akomfrah, says the leading Nkrumahist party is ready to take up the challenge of managing the affairs of this nation again.
He added that a competent flagbearer will be elected for this cause.
The party is in talks with other Nkrumahist parties to contest next year’s elections as a single force.
It wants to join forces with the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Progressive people’s Party (PPP) especially to oust the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on TV3’s News @10 after the party’s congress in Sunyani, Nii Akomfrah divulged that the immediate past chair of the party, Samia Yaba Nkrumah, is among members who have expressed interest to lead the party in 2016.
Lawyer Bright Akwetey is also another, he hinted.
“I am sure the flagbearer in the past election may also want to contest again,” he said of Dr Abu Sakara Forster.
If the merger talks of the Nkrumahists are successful, CPP’s presidential hopefuls will battle with others from the other Nkrumahist parties at a congress.
Already, the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the PNC, Hassan Ayariga, has announced his intention to contest again just like Dr Edward Mahama, a four-time candidate.
