Resettlement communities and installations along the Volta Lake were fumigated and disinfected last week to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The communities are in four districts, namely Fanteakwa North, Kwahu West, Kwahu South and Kwahu Afram Plains North, all in the Eastern Region.
Apart from the environment, facilities such as basic schools, CHP centres and police posts were fumigated.
The residents from the beneficiary communities, Dedeso, Onuku, Dorminase, Amanfrom, Ampaamu, are fisher folks and farmers who produce to feed close-by districts and the Greater Accra Region.
The four districts have already recorded Covid-19 cases and have patients recovering.
The disinfection and fumigation exercise is to deactivate micro-organisms and control pests and insecticide using Chlorine and other chemicals.
Kwesi Kwarteng, the Director of Modapest, who led the exercise, noted it is critical the virus is contained.
Nurses and teachers in the beneficiary communities commended the Volta River Authority, Modapest and Zoomlion for the exercise.
“Since the outbreak of the pandemic, we barely had PPEs to work with,” some said.
“The disinfection and fumigation would go a long way to reduce risk of infection.”
Another said: “Our bungalows have been taken over by bats. We are hoping to have a refreshing room to sleep for the months ahead.”
