Constitution Review Committee meets Akufo-Addo, Bawumia

The Constitution Review Committee has met with former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in Accra on Thursday, June 5.

The committee also met with former Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs  Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

The meetings covered a wide range of constitution-related governance issues, Chair of the Committee, Professor H Kwasi Prempeh, said on his Facebook page.

“The Committee will soon announce the new calendar for the rescheduled zonal public engagements across the country. Meanwhile, the Committee continues to invite and encourage citizens to send their written submissions to: submissions@constitutionreviewgh.org.” Prof Prempeh added.

Earlier, President John Dramani Mahama said the Committee is expected to present its report in August after its work has been completed.

Speaking during a meeting with the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the President hinted that issues of asset declaration and more stringent measures to fight corruption will be included in the report.

“We are expecting the report of the Constitutional Review Committee in August and I’m sure that some of the recommendations will cover issues to do with asset declaration and other mainstream support in the fight against corruption,” the President noted.

The 8-member Committee chaired was tasked with identifying gaps and challenges in the implementation of previous constitutional review efforts, engaging with stakeholders to gather diverse perspectives, and formulating actionable recommendations to strengthen Ghana’s democratic institutions and processes.

The committee comprises legal scholars, political scientists, and civil society leaders, all recognized for their expertise and commitment to good governance.

Other members of the Committee are;  Justice Sophia Adinyirah, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, Dr. Esi Ansah and Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya (Secretary).

By the formation of the Committee, President Mahama fulfilled a campaign promise to assess and potentially amend the nation’s 1992 Constitution.
