The Deputy Head of Corporate Affairs of Ghana Tourism Authority, Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi has said that the closure of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial park was done to strategize on the ticketing.

According to him, the park was open and free to all citizens that wanted to tour the place because the plan was to “promote domestic tourism”.

“When it was opened, it was opened for the general public. We are trying to promote domestic tourism. It’s called ‘Experience Ghana, Share Ghana’. Why would you open something and quickly close it? When it was opened, we gave 1 week, wanting Ghanaians to come there free of charge. So for about 5 days, anyone could pass through because we wanted Ghanaians to have a feel. They weren’t paying a dime when it was opened,” he stated.

Speaking on Onua Showbiz on Onua FM, Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi shed light on why the park was closed right after it was opened a week ago.

“Now the closure was for us to strategize on the ticketing. The ticketing is electronic; digital,” he said.

Responding to why they waited until the opening before having to decide on some of these things, the deputy head of corporate affairs of GTA indicated that “We had already put measures in place but at the time the place was opened, we had a lot of people coming in. When there is pressure like that, what happens is that you need to go back to the drawing table, put certain things in place and then open back again so that tourists can now be coming in.”

The recently redeveloped Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park was commissioned on July 4, 2023, by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but was temporarily closed on Friday, July 7.
