The Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice – CHRAJ has dismissed public assertions that the image of the commission has been dented following the brouhaha that preceded the dismissal of the CHRAJ boss, Lauretta Lamptey.

The head of the commission was dismissed by President John Mahama who implemented recommendations made by a committee put together by the Chief Justice to investigate allegations leveled against her.

Upon establishing a prima facie case against Mrs. Lamptey she was indicted for further investigations to continue. She was accused of abuse of office and showing lack of knowledge for the office she was heading.

Speaking to Accra based Citi Fm, Head of Public Affairs of CHRAJ, Comfort Akosua Edu indicated that “despite the decision by the president to remove her from post work must go on. The president’s decision has not tarnished the image of the commission.”

Asked whether the dismissal of the CHRAJ boss has affected work at the commission, Ms Edu said “work has been ongoing since the news came.” She added that “this matter has been investigated by a committee put together by the Chief Justice and a report submitted to the President.

“So if the president has taken his decision what can we say? After all the constitutional process was followed so we have to respect what the president’s decided.”

Madam Lauretta Lamptey has been serving a suspension for the last few months following several complaints leveled against her over rent issues. She is said to have spent several thousands of dollars on her rent which span over the constitutionally mandated 6 months.
