The Winneba Municipal Hospital has announced the death of two children who contracted cholera.

The Effutu Municipality has become a hotspot in the outbreak of cholera with a surge in cases.

The outbreak is more common in fishing communities along the coast of the municipality.

Head of Medical Supervision at the Winneba Municipal Hospital, Dr. Douglas Amponsah, who made the disclosure said a total of 356 cases are suspected with 29 cases confirmed.

10 out of 15 patients who are currently on admission are in critical state.

He said “most of the cases are coming from members of similar families” with children constituting the highest number of victims.

According to him measures have been instituted to curb spread and also treat those with confirmed cases.

The National Democratic Congress’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Effutu Constituency, James Kofi Annan who donated some items to the municipal hospital to aid the treatment of patients has pledged to ensure the relocation of some refuse sites within the coastal communities along with other interventions to improve sanitation and hygiene.

The Effutu Municipality has now become a hotspot just like the Ajumako, Agona West and Ekumfi districts also in the central region.
