Ten junior doctors of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital in the Central Region, have been relieved of their post for abandoning their post for nearly nine months over unpaid allowances.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital in a letter copied to the Medical and Dental Council said they find the doctors action disrespectful especially when they were giving them allowances to cater for their feeding and transportation.
He said the doctors had since June 2014 agitated over unpaid salaries and had as a result abandon work despite interim measures taken by the hospital to enable them to work.
Some junior doctors at various health facilities recently embarked on a strike over their unpaid salaries. As a result, those at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi had their cheques released to them.
The same was not done for those in Cape Coast compelling them to remain on strike. They have vowed to stay home until all their monies are paid.
But in a letter announcing their dismissal and requesting a replacement to fill their vacancies, the Chief Executive of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Dr. Daniel Asare, said his outfit can no longer tolerate the disrespect of the young doctors.
The letter also requested the Ghana medical and dental council to, as a matter of urgency, replace the dismissed doctors with new ones.
