The Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, has appealed to the King of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari to intervene to bring finality to the Bawku chieftaincy dispute.

“Ndan Ya-Na, the biggest and escalated chieftaincy conflict in northern Ghana now is the Bawku chieftaincy conflict which predates the independence of Ghana and as you are aware, peace is not just an end goal, but a process that requires efforts, commitment and dedication for resolution,” he said.

He continued, “I appeal to you to intervene in this matter just as I call on the feuding factions in the Bawku chieftaincy conflict to cease fire for a congenial environment to accelerate the peace process.”

He congratulated President John Dramani Mahama for the historic visit to Bawku and Nayiri in search for amicable solution to the Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

In a speech read on his behalf by Registrar of the Dagbon Traditional Council, Alhassan Abdul Fatawu, Ya-Na emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence in northern Ghana.

He appealed to the Buipewura and the National House of Chiefs to ensure the approval of the Dagbon constitution as soon a possible.

“The Dagbon constitution plays a crucial role in the traditional governance of the kingdom, hence, I appeal to you Buipewura and the National House of Chiefs to approve the Dagbon constitution,” he said.

The Dagbon Kingdom submitted the Dagbon Constitution to the National House of Chiefs since last year and is yet to be approved.
