The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has served notice to begin the process of a private members bill that will bar political office holders from buying state property.
This move comes on the back of the ongoing sale of SSNIT’s stake in some four hotels to Bryan Acheampong, Minister for Food and Agriculture and MP for Abetifi.
The MP has already petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, for a probe.

According to the North Tongu MP, the bill has become necessary due to what he describes as the arbitrary accumulation of state property by political office holders.
“We are drafting a private member’s bill so that no politician will be allowed to buy state property. We should not be selling state property, so we need a law that will bar any minister, any appointee, any cabinet minister from engaging in any such nakedly unconscionable deals”, he highlighted on 3FM’s Hot Edition on May 27, 2024.
He has indicated that he has served notice to the Ghana Police Service of a demonstration scheduled for June 18, 2024, against the ongoing sale.
Meanwhile, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), in response to the allegations by Mr Ablakwa said, among other things, that Rock City Hotel Limited presented the best offer for the purchase of SSNIT’s 60% stake in each of the four hotels.
