Officers and staff of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have been charged to be professional in the discharge of their duties.

In the wake of emerging threats and hostile military-civilian relations reported recently, a strong caution has been issued to the officers of the armed forces to ensure peaceful co-existence in the country.

As Ghana prepares to hold the 2024 general elections, the outgone Chief of Defence Staff CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama wants leadership of GAF to be loyal and highly professional.

“Let me request that we all continue to work hard and be professional in our dealings. In my view, professionalism essentially means training all year rounds to improve our skills. Such training provides us with essential leverage in mission accomplishment. Therefore, I charge all commissioned officers to continue to show leadership in their work,” he advised.

According to the retired CDS, “Leadership is not about the rank you hold. It’s about the lives you touch and the legacies you leave. In service, we find purpose but in leadership we inspire greatness. And so officers, I implore you to be committed to your leadership responsibilities. I also urge the warrant officers and senior NCO’s who are the backbone of the military, to translate the intention of commanders into actions and then to the soldiers, the sailors and airmen, I urge you to learn work and train hard to carry out all orders and task to the best of your abilities.  That way, our arm forces can continue to stay focused and effectively deal with the myriads of threats that confront our nation.”

He further urged them to accord the in-coming CDS to enable him succeed during his tenure.

“I would like to ask you to extend the same loyalty and support to General Thomas Oppong-Peprah to continue to lift high the image of the Ghana Armed Forces and finally, I wish to convey my immense gratitude to my family for their understanding and support.

I want to specially thank my wife Victoria and appreciate her for her immeasurable contribution to my success. I always thank God for blessing me with such a beautiful, loving, caring and an understanding woman. Above all, she is my greatest prayer warrior. I will not have made it this far without her support and prayers,” he concluded.

He made these remarks at a pulling out ceremony in Accra on February 1.

Vice Admiral Seth Amoama will be succeeded by the new Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah.

The event was characterised by display of gratitude and camaraderie, shower of gifts, profound citations and hearty appreciations as well as celebratory guard of honour parade marked the momentous occasion to farewell to the former Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama.

Having served four decades in service, Vice Admiral Amoama’s sterling leadership was extolled by all.

And for him, his exemplary dedication and tenure could not be successful without the massive support he enjoyed from staff and sister security agencies.
