Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will be the centre of attention at the 2024 National Awards, as he is set to receive the prestigious Order of the Star of Ghana, the nation’s second-highest honour.
This accolade will be presented by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during a ceremony slated for December 30 at the International Conference Centre in Accra.
The Order of the Star of Ghana is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the nation’s progress.
Dr Bawumia, known for his pivotal role in steering Ghana’s economic transformation and championing digitisation, will be the sole recipient of this honour in 2024.
This recognition will be a highlight in his political career and serves as a closing milestone for the Akufo-Addo administration, under which the Vice President has served.
The 2024 National Awards will also shine a spotlight on other distinguished Ghanaians for their impactful contributions in various sectors. Among them is Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, who will receive the Order of the Volta for his exemplary public service.
NAPO, who served as Dr Bawumia’s running mate in the 2024 presidential elections, will also be recognised for his leadership in education and energy.

Honouring the Creative Arts
The creative arts sector will also have its moment of recognition. Legendary highlife musicians Daddy Lumba and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley will be celebrated for their enduring impact on Ghanaian music. Actress and filmmaker Juliet Asante will also receive an award for her significant contributions to the industry. These awards underscore the vital role of the arts in shaping Ghana’s cultural identity.
The Ghana Police Service, represented by the Inspector General of Police, will receive the Presidential Honour for Distinguished Service-Organisation.
