Bawumia reveals what Ex-president Kufuor told him after heavy defeat in 2024 elections

The 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia revealed what former President John Agyekum Kufuor told him after the NPP’s heavy defeat in the 2024 general elections.

During an engagement with NPP Members of Parliament on Wednesday, April 2, he said that “Sometimes, I hear people ask ‘where do we start from’. The words of Prez Kufour always ring in my mind. He told me after the defeat that in 1996, when he had 39%, he too wondered where to start from. But with unity behind him and hard work in just 4 years, we crossed 50%. In the last election, we got 41%.”

He further expressed confidence that in unity and common purpose in less than 4 years, Ghanaians will take a decision to bring the NPP back at the 2028 polls.

Dr Bawumia further commended the NPP lawmakers for the work they have done so far in the 9th parliament, despite being the minority.

Dr Bawumia told them that the NPP was grateful to them for the work done so far.

“Many have likened you to the Minority of the 2nd Parliament led by our father, J.H Mensah. The party will be forever grateful to you.

“Let me take this opportunity also to commend the back benchers/firtstimers who have sent shocks throughout the waves with their sterling performances. You have qualitatively proven your inclusion. I also appreciate the leadership and continuing MPs for giving the back benchers the platform to shine. This is the kind of unity of purpose and understanding that we need to win elections once again.”

He added “I call you The Mighty Minority of 88 Infantry Battalion, commanded by Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin.”

He added “My first reason for coming here is to say a big thank you to you directly. And through you say thank you to the many in your constituencies who worked for us in various ways.

Very soon, he said, they will ge to the constituencies to officially show our appreciation to them all.

“You were in the trenches with me and the party throughout the difficult moments of the campaign and I don’t take it for granted that you have kept with the npp and with me and gone out to do battle for us,” De Bawumia said.
