Bawumia inaugurates 75KW Micro Hydro Plant at Hohoe

The Vice President and flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has inaugurated the 2nd Phase of a 75KW Micro Hydro Plant at Tsatsadu Power Generation station and Tsatsadu Center of Excellence at Alavanyo- Abehenease in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region.

The 2nd phase adds up to an earlier 45KW plant inaugurated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo thereby making a total of 120KW generated Capacity of power.

The Vice President noted that the 120 KW Micro Hydro Plant is not only adding up to the national power generation capacity but also would create space for engineering students from the various universities in the country and beyond for their practical training in hydro power generation plant.

He said plans are far advanced to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to enable students have access to the plant.

The Tsatsadu Center of Excellence is also built to accommodate the engineering-based students who would be carrying out practical training in micro hydro power, the flagbearer emphasized.

Dr. Bawumia stressed government’s commitment to add 2000MW solar power to the national grid to reduce electricity cost in the country, particularly households would benefit from 50 percent reduction of power cost.

The Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi said Bui Power Authority is determined to be leaders in renewable energy in the country and beyond and therefore would next month add 105 MW solar power to the energy mix as 50MW will be established at Yendi, 50MW at Bui and 5MW floating solar at Bui which is said to be the first of its kind in Ghana.

He said following the experience gained from the project, his outfit would begin establishing a 3MW Power Plant at Wli Waterfalls early next year to ensure smooth power supply in Hohoe and its environs as NPP is optimistic of retaining power after the upcoming 7th December general elections.

The CEO disclosed that the idea of establishing the Tsatsadu Center of Excellence was mooted by the MP of the area, John Peter Amewu and therefore commended the Railways Minister and charged the people to adopt the culture of maintenance to prolong the lifespan of the facility.

The Minister of Railways and MP for Hohoe Constituency, John Peter Amewu urged the people of Alavanyo to resist attempts by detractors whose plans are to deceive them not to vote for him and the NPP to retain power and carry on with their developmental agenda.

The Railways Minister said it’s only the NPP government that fulfils its campaign promises and pledged the party’s preparedness to bring more developmental projects to the constituency and therefore appealed to the people to vote massively for him and the flagbearer.
