Bawumia assures UN of Ghana’s unwavering commitment to global peace




Dr Mahamudu Bawumia earlier welcomed to the Jubilee House, H.E. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Ambassador to the UN, who was in the country for the UN Peace Keeping Ministerial Conference.
“Our discussion touched on many areas, including on Ghana and the United States’ shared values and principled positions on the Security Council, such as global peace and security, climate and developmental issues,” Dr Bawumia told journalists.
During the opening of the meeting on Tuesday December 5, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, expressed Ghana’s appreciation to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General for the selection of Accra, as host of the 5th UN Peace Keeping Ministerial Conference.
In her welcome address at the opening of the event, which is taking place at Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, on Tuesday, December 5, she said: “I wish to express my appreciation of the government and the people of Ghana to the UN Secretary-General and all member states of the special committee on peacekeeping, for the confidence reposed in Ghana to host the 5th UN Peace Keeping ministerial meeting in Accra which is the 1st on the continent of Africa.”
She added that “the challenges we face demand sustained commitment and collaboration.I urge each participant to translate the insight gained and the commitment made during our time together here, into tangible actions that will contribute to peaceful and global peace and security.”
