Bawku Central Member of Parliament (MP) Mahama Ayariga has followed up on his letter written to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over the military brutalities in Bawku in the Upper East Region.
The allegations in February were denied by the military in a statement.
The Ghana Armed Forces explained that the exchanges were between officers and some gunmen.
“The gunmen fired through the tyre and engine compartment of the vehicle,” it explained in February.
But the Bawku Central MP wrote to CHRAJ to investigate the incident.
He disclosed that he has not heard anything from the human rights body since then.
“I have seen copies of letters your office wrote to the Ghana Armed Forces to respond to my complaints,” he wrote to the Commissioner on Monday, November 6.
“Since then, I have not heard anything in relation to the matter.
“I will not accept any attempt by the military to avoid accountability for the killings of innocent people in Bawku.”
The former Youth and Sports Minister wants a deadline to be given to the military to respond to CHRAJ’s queries.
“I also expected that CHRAJ would have visited the community to speak to victims to gather evidence beyond whatever Ghana Armed Forces would say in their response but this has not happened.
“Please, rest assured that the people of the Zoogin community will continue to demand justice for those who were unjustly killed by members of the Ghana Armed Forces in their community.”
