Atik Mohammed lauds Akufo-Addo meeting with political parties

The suspended General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has explained that the move by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to meet leaders of political parties means there is cooperation by political parties in the country. He said all the leaders that went to the Office of the President did not behave as if they were there for their political parties but were there for Ghana. President Akufo-Addo met with leaders on Thursday to seek their views on some governance-enhancing measures his administration intends to take. The political parties represented by their chairpersons and general secretaries were drawn from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Progressive People’s Party (PPP). Also in attendance were the chairpersons and general secretaries of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), People’s National Convention (PNC), and the National Democratic Party (NDP). The rest were the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), United People’s Party (UPP), All People’s Congress (APC), Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), United Front Party (UFP), and the Democratic People’s Party (DPP). The meeting, which was the first in recent years, lasted over three hours and was held in a good atmosphere, one of frank exchanges and mutual respect. “Beyond competition, we can cooperate and it is something we all share,” Atik Mohammed told 3FM’s Sunrise host Winston Amoah on Friday. “We all respected ourselves. We spoke not as leaders of political parties.  We spoke as Ghanaians,” he said, noting that “nobody came there with conflicts [of] ideas”. By Kweku Antwi-Otoo|editors.3news.com|Ghana
