Ashanti Regional Zongo Chief cautions youth on election violence

The Ashanti Regional Chief of Zongo Communities, Sultan Alhaji Umar Farouk Saeed says his office will work closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to sensitize residents within the communities on the need to uphold peace ahead of the 2020 general elections. He has therefore called on people living within Zongo communities especially the youth to eschew acts that will affect the peace of the country. “This year is an election year and I urge all the people of Zongo to comport themselves in the very best manner that will ensure peaceful election in the country”. Sultan Alhaji Farouk Saeed made the remarks during a gathering of chiefs, opinion and religious leaders to mark 10 years of his reign as the head of Zongo Chiefs in the Ashanti Region. He thanked the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for the support and advice given the Zongo communities over the years. “His majesty’s determination to incorporate the Zongo communities into various cultural and traditional activities of Asante is commendable. We must work as chiefs and leaders to also support the agenda of Asantehene”, Sultan Umar Farouk noted. Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong, Alhaji Alidu Seidu commended the Zongo Chief for using his office to support education and peace within the communities. “Since he assumed the office of the Zongo Chief, he has done a lot to facilitate scholarship for Zongo students to attain higher education. The assembly will continue to support him for this good cause”. Sultan Alhaji Umar Farouk has since his installation as the Sarkin Zongo initiated programmes to promote peace and tolerance among different ethnic groups in the Zongo communities.
