Joseph Abu, Secretary of the victims of Phase III of the Appiatse reconstruction project, has expressed renewed optimism after the committee’s latest update to the effect that it will be completed in good time.
Abu pleaded for accelerated reconstruction, emphasizing the need to know the location of their new homes.
“We’re grateful for the Deputy Minister’s response, but we still have outstanding issues needing urgent attention,” Abu said.
According to a press statement signed by Benito Owusu Bio, chairman of the Reconstruction Implementation Committee on September 17, he stated that, “We wish to put on record that the Government through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is committed to ensuring that the 3rd and final phase will be completed in good time”.
“We thank the Appiatse Support Fund, our donors, contributors and the people of Appiatse for their unflinching support and cooperation as we work towards the common goal of completing this 3rd phase,” the press release noted.
This is a significant step forward, considering the progress already made in the project’s initial phases.
This progress follows the devastating Appiatse explosion in January 2022, which claimed 17 lives, injured 59, and caused widespread damage.
The community has struggled to recover, with many feeling sidelined in the reconstruction process.
