Echi Government Hospital has established itself as a trusted referral point for patients from far and near since its inception.

Despite the challenges it faces, the hospital remains committed to delivering on its core mandate, providing quality healthcare services to those in need.

One major concern for the facility was the lack of digital x-ray equipment, which hindered their ability to provide quality diagnostic services.

However, thanks to the efforts of their Member of Parliament, Oscar Ofori Larbi, the facility received a brand-new chemistry analyzer in December 2024.

Although this is a significant step forward, the need for digital x-ray equipment still remains.

Digital x-ray systems offer numerous benefits, including faster image acquisition, improved detector sensitivity, and intelligent image processing, which can deliver high-quality images at lower doses.

One area of concern was the temporary absence of three resident medical officers, who are currently pursuing further studies. This has created a staffing gap, putting additional pressure on the remaining medical staff and potentially impacting the hospital’s ability to provide optimal care.

To help alleviate the staffing shortage, Dr. Mercy Nuamah, a retired medical officer and native of Aowin, has selflessly offered her services to the Enchi Government Hospital, providing a much-needed boost to the hospital’s medical team.

She provides clinical care, consultations, and in-patient care to patients, making a significant impact on the community.

When asked about her decision to offer free services, Dr. Nuamah explained, “As a retired medical officer, I felt compelled to utilize my skills and experience to benefit my community”.

“Since I’m currently not engaged in any other activities, I saw this as an opportunity to give back. I also noticed that the hospital was facing staffing challenges, and I wanted to volunteer my services to support the facility and its patients.'”

In recognition of her selfless devotion, the Hospital Management reached out to Oscar Ofori Larbi, the Member of Parliament for Aowin, to assist with paying Dr. Nuamah’s duty allowance.

As a token of appreciation, the MP Oscar Larbi presented Dr. Nuamah with GHC5000, with promises of subsequent remittances to support her ongoing volunteer work.

“As the Member of Parliament for this area, I’m deeply committed to the well-being of my constituents. When the Management of the hospital approached my office for support, I considered it essential to assist them”.

“Not only do I want to help the hospital, but I also aim to foster a spirit of volunteering within our communities, encouraging others to follow suit and make a positive impact.” He explained.

Senior hospital staff witnessed the presentation, acknowledging Dr. Nuamah’s remarkable commitment to saving lives.
