Antoine Semenyo: Ghana’s World Cup fate lies in our own hands

Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has issued a rallying cry to his teammates as Ghana bids to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasizing that their destiny is firmly within their grasp.

Following a convincing 5-0 triumph over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, Ghana currently sits atop Group I with two points clear of second place Madagascar.

Semenyo who was on target in that encounter is eager to make a return to the world’s biggest stage, having previously represented Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Antoine Semenyo’s scorching form for Bournemouth spilled over to the national team as he netted his third Black Stars goal in Ghana’s convincing 5-0 win over Chad.

On the eve of Ghana’s final match in the March international break, 29-year-old forward Antoine Semenyo expressed his confidence that the four-time AFCON champions hold their own fate in securing consecutive World Cup qualifications.

“I think anyone wants to play at the World Cup; not many players can say they’ve played at the World Cup. So, we have such a good opportunity to qualify now. So for us, we’ve got the opportunity in our hands, so we just need to take it.” Semenyo via SuperSports

The striker also highlighted the allure of competing at the highest level.

“Playing on the biggest stage in the world, everyone loves to play, but not everyone loves to watch players play in the World Cup.”

Fresh from his goal against Chad, Semenyo will aim to continue his scoring form when Ghana faces Madagascar in their next qualifier on Monday, March 24, as they seek to consolidate their lead in Group I.
