Anti-corruption campaigner, Edem Senanu has criticized the NPP parliamentary candidate for Asougyaman, Pius Enam Hadzide for proposing that he would support the youth there to travel to the US if he becomes the MP for the area.
The MP in a rally in Asuogyaman asked the chiefs and the people of the community to vote for him if they wanted their children to travel out of the country and bring in money for their upkeep.
“If you, Nananom, desire for your children to travel to America to work and send money back home, or if you are a young person eager to explore opportunities abroad, I promise to support you when I become MP,’ he assured.
This comment has attracted wide criticism. But the MP insists there is nothing wrong with what he said.
In an interview on 3FM’s Hot Edition with Beatrice Adu and Alfred Ocansey, Mr. Hadzide said “what is wrong with supporting somebody to travel out? Whether it is to study or to work? I’m not just to make laws. I am a development agent.”
But in an interview on the Midday News on 3FM with Beatrice Adu, Edem Senanu said that comment was uncalled for.
“I am shocked that he has the effrontery to even justify that he was standing there going to fly people out of this country. What nonsense. What effrontery. Are we electing them to go to parliament to facilitate people having tickets to fly out? Is that what is done in Parliament?” He asked.
Mr Senanu further wondered, “Is that legislative work? What has that got to do with the development of his constituency? Come on; that does not show a sense of ethical leadership of any sort…….he should have apologized to us’. Is that what this country needs. I’m shocked that he has the audacity to come and justify this. It is an attempt at vote buying and he should be ashamed of it. It’s so out of place.”

Pius Hadzide prior to this comment had been cleared by President Akufo-Addo of any wrongdoing in the 2017 sporting events ‘scandal.
It would be recalled that the former Deputy Minister in 2017 was embroiled in the infamous Australia visa scandal in which several individuals allegedly posed as journalists to obtain visa to the commonwealth games in Australia. He was initially suspended by President Akufo-Addo and later reinstated.
