Controversial investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas is seeking 25 million-cedi damages against outspoken Ghanaian legislator, Kennedy Agyapong for claiming he is corrupt and evil. He is suing the MP at the Accra High Court for making what he deemed defamatory statements against his person. Kennedy Agyapong has accused Anas as being corrupt and should be hanged for what he claimed to be the journalist’s evil deeds in his work. Ahead of the premiering of the journalist’s latest exposé that revealed deep-seated corruption in Africa football, the MP launched a scattering attack on Anas and threatened to equally expose him. “We have to hang Anas for the evil things that he has done to Ghanaians in the course of his investigations, which he has used to amass wealth in Ghana,” Kennedy Agyapong said on Adom FM. He added: “If I tell you somebody is corrupt, I should make sure I am genuine before I point my finger at someone”. Kennedy Agyapong then threatened to show evidence of Anas’ alleged corrupt acts if he dared premiere the controversial #Number12 investigative piece. The documentary, being the result of a two-year investigative work by the journalist and his Tiger Eye PI team, confirmed allegations of deep-seated corruption in Ghana’s football in particular. It exposed how some GFA officials, referees, football administrators and those in the sports authority, received bribes in various sums to fix matches, disregard rules and regulations, and eventually compromised their positions and work. Apparently, his name was mentioned in the documentary. Ghana Football President Kwesi Nyantakyi mentioned Kennedy Agyapong’s name as being a “loud” person within the New Patriotic Party government who ought to be given some money in order to win him to their side in a deal he was seeking to strike with some supposed investors.
