Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP’s National Organiser has firmly stated that Attorney- General Godfred Yeboah Dame will not step down from his role despite mounting pressure from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The organizer dismissed the NDC’s calls for Dame’s resignation, asserting that the government will not heed such demands.

“He won’t resign today or tomorrow; he will continue in his role as Attorney-General,” Boakye affirmed to host of Yen Nsempa on Onua FM, Nana Yaa Brefo and co-hosted by Isaac Ekow JB in a phone call interview on May 29.

Boakye criticized the NDC’s tactics, referring to a recently released phone conversation by the opposition party as “doctored, fake, cut-and-paste.”

He emphasized that the case concerning the financial loss related to the ambulance purchases would be addressed in court, not in the media. “We would meet in court to discuss the case, not in public,” he stressed.

The controversy erupted on May 28 when the NDC released a tape purportedly featuring a conversation between Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance purchase case.

The tape suggests that Dame was coaching Jakpa on how to frame his testimony to implicate Dr. Ato Forson, the first accused and a current Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam.

According to the NDC, the tape includes discussions about meetings at the home of a Supreme Court Justice and issues regarding the ambulance contract, allegedly indicating attempts by Dame to influence the witness’s testimony.

Dr. Forson, a former Deputy Minister of Finance, stands accused of authorizing payments for defective ambulances, a move that the prosecution claims resulted in financial loss to the state.

The NDC has highlighted several key excerpts from the tape, arguing that they demonstrate clear attempts by the Attorney General to manipulate witness testimony against Dr. Forson.

Jakpa, in the tape, alleges that he was pressured to provide testimony detrimental to Dr. Forson.

The NDC contends that this recording substantiates Jakpa’s claims and raises serious questions about the conduct of the Attorney-General in this high-profile case.

Amid these allegations, Boakye’s statement underscores the NPP’s stance on supporting Godfred Dame’s continued tenure as Attorney- General, indicating that the government remains unyielding in the face of opposition pressure.
