Illegal structures were pulled down as people – mostly traders – looked on helplessly.
This is a follow-up of a similar exercise on Sunday at Circle.
The exercise saw the pulling down of all structures on the bank of the Odaw River.
TV3’s Kwabena Adu Gyamfi reports on TV3’s News in Brief on Tuesday that most of the traders complained that they were served at a short notice. They mentioned Sunday, July 12, 2015 as date on which they were served with the notice of demolition.
But our reporter’s checks revealed that a notice had been served these traders as far back as November 4, 2013.
The Assembly has served notice that structures at North Dzorwulu near the railway and Achimota along the banks of the Odaw will all be flattened, our reporter said.
That will be after Tuesday’s exercise at the North Industrial Area.
The demolition was instanced by the deadly floods of June 3. The floods were said to have been caused by numerous structures on water courses.
The first demolition was at the Region’s largest slum, at Old Fadama popularly known as Sodom and Gomorrah. The exercise on Saturday, June 20 sparked a protest march by residents the next Monday. They vandalised state property in the process.
