Akufo-Addo urges stakeholders to be measured in their comments on SSNIT’s operations

President Akufo-Addo has called on organised labour and stakeholders in the pension space to be measured in their pronouncements in order not to create dissatisfaction on the labour front.

The President cited the attempted sale of the hotels belonging to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and said comments on the botched transaction created agitations among pensioners.

He therefore cautioned members to be circumspect.

“Take note of the improved performance of SSNIT which recently announced a surplus of GHC230 million on its operations, this should be reassuring to organised labour and perhaps bring into sharper relief the unnecessary controversy that was recently generated by SSNIT’s efforts to offload non-performing assets in its hotel portfolio.”

“It is my understanding that the recent issue is the only time in history where SSNIT has determined to back down its sale of non-performing assert.”

“All of us need to be measured when it comes to making decision and pronouncements that will affect the long-term interest of pensioners,” President Akufo-Addo advised on August 20.
