Prof Alabi says some NPP bigwigs are not happy with the US military deal[/caption] Professor Joshua Alabi, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expected the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to listen to the citizenry with respect to the US-Ghana military agreement. The immediate past chairman for the SSNIT board said it was one of the pertinent issues President Akufo-Addo could have given attention to the ‘voice’ of the people. Prof Alabi was speaking on Connect FM’s political show, Asem Yi Dzi Ka, hosted by Henry Eliud Yankey on Thursday. ‘Smart man’ The former Greater Accra Region Minister said he described the president as a “smart man” upon hearing that he was going to address the nation in that regard but on the contrary, the president did not meet the expectations of the citizenry, a situation he termed as “unfortunate”. “[I thought] he was going [to] give to the people what they have said and everybody will be shocked and he would be tagged a listening president.” He said Ghanaians were only calling for renegotiations of the terms and conditions like tax exemptions among some other uncertainties attached to the agreement. He claimed that the fallout of the president’s address disappointed a lot of people including some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). “A lot of people, top people of the NPP don’t like the agreement but you see they are quiet because it is a party thing”. He stressed the president should have listened to the people. “He would have freed them from being caged.” By Loveridge Ampratwum Okyere|Connect FM|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
