Akufo-Addo disrespected chiefs, demanded they stand and greet him – Krontihene

Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, the Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, has criticised President Nana Akufo-Addo’s tenure, highlighting instances of disrespect toward traditional leaders and lamenting his administration’s failures.

Speaking to the media, Nana Abodade III expressed relief at the end of President Akufo-Addo’s term, attributing it to a perceived era of widespread corruption and mismanagement. “Ghana has been stripped naked; the robbers have stolen all the goodies,” he stated, reflecting dissatisfaction with the outgoing administration.

He also accused the President of disrespecting traditional authorities, referencing instances where chiefs were allegedly instructed to stand and greet him. “Let’s see if he [Akufo-Addo] will now go around and instruct chiefs to stand up and greet him,” Nana Abodade III remarked, alluding to what he described as undue demands for reverence.

The Krontihene expressed regret over missed opportunities during Akufo-Addo’s presidency, noting, “He could have achieved much more… We pray we never have another Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana.

Nana Abodade III suggested that many traditional leaders share this sentiment, stating, “A lot of chiefs are happy… Some of us are happy that his reign is coming to an end.”
