Afenyo-Markin reports to CID to assist police in alleged assault probe

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to assist in investigations into an alleged assault involving him and a police officer during a recent ‘Save the Judiciary Demonstration’.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed in a statement that Afenyo-Markin’s appearance follows an official request made to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament.

His cooperation forms part of ongoing efforts to clarify events surrounding a confrontation that occurred during the protest.

The police further disclosed that a second line of investigation has commenced following a formal petition submitted by Afenyo-Markin himself, alleging that he was assaulted by the officer involved.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to conducting a fair, impartial, and thorough investigation into both claims.
