The suspect, Samuel Wilson was arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations in an uncompleted building at Kansaworado, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis and handed over to the police for investigations. Wilson who was being held at the Police cell allegedly used a hacksaw blade to cut some metal railings covering a ventilation duct to the cell Sunday evening and escaped without any of the seven officers on duty noticing.

He is said to be “notoriously dangerous” and believed to be behind most of the kidnap cases reported in the metropolis in the last few months. He speaks with a Nigerian accent, the police said. Police in the Region have since the incident been tightlipped as they are yet to issue any official public statement giving out details on the circumstances leading to the escape of the man. According to the Police, they are investigating the matter. Relatives of some kidnapped victims who met with the Police Commander, Peter Ofori Donkor, told Connect FM that the officers on duty have been given 10 days to produce the suspect or face the law. According to them, the seven officers have meanwhile been “put behind bars”. Meanwhile the relatives claim they have started receiving calls from the kidnappers demanding for ransom, just after the prime suspect in the numerous kidnapping cases escaped from police custody. The incident has angered some residents within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis and some of them, including relatives of kidnapping victims have threatened to picket at the Central Police Station to demand answers.
